How do I move one register from one location to another when it isn't working? (Instructions)

  • Note if moving a register
    • Register 1 is the backup for the WST VM (POS Server). If the WST VM goes down, you need Register 1 to act as the backup WST VM. McDonald’s advises that a restaurant should NEVER consider moving register 1 to another register location because it would leave your WST VM without a backup.
    • Register 13 is the drive thru cashier, in McDonald’s perspective, register 13 is most important register in the restaurant. If Register 13 goes down, it should be replaced with any register other than Register 1. DO NOT MOVE REGISTER 1!
      • Note: Register 1 should ONLY be moved as a last resort. If the store insists on moving register, advise the store "Register 1 runs your backup production. If you move register 1 and your WST VM goes down, you will not be able to get the store back online"
      • If the store still insists on moving register, clearly document in the incident that the store was advised of potential issues and insists on moving register 1 anyway.
  1. Detach the register using the appropriate method (see Overview, above):
  • Perform a Local Detach:

  • Try a second time by clicking on “Detach This Register” button again.
  • Click on “Yes” button from the popup message “Are you sure you want to detach this register.
  • After a second try, Support Operation screen will show a message as “POS Successfully detached”.
  • If register shows successfully detached but isn’t.  Then log off and retry detach

Move the register to the desired location to re-attach it, also known as inserting it.

  1. Make sure everything is plugged into the register, including the network cable, and turn it on
  2. The register will load to prompt “Do you want to reprovision with previous profile? “
  • Select “NO”

Input the Application type and device number (IP address should be prepopulated) and then select run. The application type is POS: Point of Sale. The device number is the register you need it to be. Select OK to save the new profile and then select save (No need to change file name) At this point the re-stage of the register should commence. The register will reboot up to four or five times during the re-stage process as it loads various Ronald screens  Once it is back to the main menu the reattach is complete. The register should come up in the same state as it was before it had failed, except that the register should be logged off if you had completed a remote drawer change. Note: It will not come up in an open state if the register never took any sales for the current business day. You will have to offline open the register. Typically, this should not be a normal occurrence. If the register has a PED, the PED must be paired
